During the World Physiotherapy Day on September 8, 2024, the Libyan Physical Therapy Association presented four insightful lectures focusing on Low Back Pain. Following these presentations, the association announced its recommendations for addressing this common issue.

What We Should Do

Patient History: Identify pain details and red flags.
Physical Exam: Check mobility, strength, and reflexes.
Education: Encourage activity.
Exercise: Tailored strengthening and flexibility.
Manual Therapy: Spinal manipulation, massage.
Psychological Support: Cognitive-behavioural therapy.
Surgery: For severe cases not responding to other treatments.
Regular Monitoring: Adjust treatments as needed.
Chronic Pain: Multidisciplinary approach.
Tecar Therapy: Deep tissue heating to reduce pain and inflammation.
Kinesio Tape: Supports muscles and joints, reduces pain, and improves
circulation.
Muscle Activation: Exercises to enhance muscle function and stability.

What We Should Not Do

Avoid Bed Rest: Do not recommend prolonged bed rest.
Limit Opioids: Use opioids only for severe cases and for short durations.
Unnecessary Imaging: Do not use MRI/CT unless there are red flags or
surgery is being considered.
Ignore Psychological Factors: Do not overlook the importance of
psychological support in managing LBP.
